Team Spotlight: A Deep Dive With Lazy Grandpa

Lazy Grandpa Spotlight Image

Leader of Good Vibes • Musician • Ceiling‑Beam Survivor • Professional Grandpa

For this Team Spotlight, I sat down with the one and only Lazy Grandpa, the heart of Good Vibes, the man with the most unexpectedly emotional origin story, and the only team leader who can describe his leadership style entirely through Pokémon moves. This is a rare behind the scenes interview, and he did not hold back.

The name “LazyGrandpa” has become iconic. What’s the real story behind it?

“It is not such a simple story…”

He takes a moment before answering, not because he’s unsure, but because the name carries weight. It isn’t just a username. It’s a timeline of people, places, and moments that shaped him. He explains that he spent most of his life surrounded by older people, card players, storytellers, the kind of personalities who become “gramps” whether they’re related to you or not. He was the kid who fit in with them, the one who could hold his own at the table, the one who earned their respect long before he realised it. But the name also carries loss.

Six years ago, he lost his grandfather, a good man, the kind of person whose absence leaves a quiet, permanent gap. Not long after, he lost a close friend to a heart attack while he was living in Amsterdam. He was broke, working part time, barely eating, and unable to return home for the funeral. That moment stayed with him.

“It got me depressed for a few days. I somehow bounced back and decided to live and honour him somehow.”

Life kept moving. He ended up living with a coworker who became a friend, someone older, someone who fit the pattern. They shared jokes, catchphrases, and a tiny apartment with a ceiling beam he hit his head on more times than he’d like to admit. One night, in that cramped space, the name finally surfaced.

“I was ‘too old’, I was lazy (sometimes), and it honoured a lot of people.”

It was funny. It was fitting. But more importantly, it was his. He’d had many nicknames over the years, but this was the first one he ever gave himself. A name built from humour, grief, nostalgia, and the people he loved.

“That is why it is special.”

If your leadership style had to be expressed through Pokémon moves, which ones would you choose?

“Follow Me. After You. Baton Pass. I won’t tell you why.. you can figure that out yourself 😉”

These moves say more than he lets on. They paint a picture of someone who leads by example, supports others before himself, and hands off opportunities instead of hoarding them. It’s leadership through presence, not pressure, a style that fits the Good Vibes name perfectly.

What’s something the community would never guess about you?

“I was homeless for a short time.”

It’s a quiet revelation, delivered without drama. It adds depth to the kindness he shows others, the patience, the empathy, the way he treats every member like they matter. People who’ve been through hard chapters often lead with softness, and Grandpa is no exception.

What part of running the team brings you the most joy?

“Your support and kind words. I didn’t have that in a long time, so I return it five times more.”

This is the emotional core of his leadership. He isn’t motivated by power or control, he’s motivated by connection. The team gives him something he didn’t have for a long time, and he gives it back with interest.

What’s been the most unexpected challenge?

“Everything! haha. I would say making and creating music.”

He laughs, but there’s truth behind it. Music has become a new creative outlet for him, one that’s exciting, intimidating, and deeply personal.

What decision are you most proud of as a leader?

“The name and the people that came with it. Most of us really honour Good Vibes and try to help people any way we can.”

This answer says everything about his priorities. He’s proud of the culture, not the structure. The kindness, not the hierarchy. The people, not the power. Good Vibes isn’t just a team, it’s a reflection of the values he built it on.

If you could add one new feature to the game tomorrow, what would it be?

“Mega Evolution!!”

A simple answer, but one that reveals his love for spectacle, strategy, and big moments.

Which Pokémon represents the whole team?

“Ludicolo!”

It’s hard to imagine a better mascot. Ludicolo dances, celebrates, and brings joy everywhere it goes, exactly the vibe the team is known for.

Who’s the biggest wildcard in the team?

“RhydonDeez. I had bad losses against him. I will grind my way and get my revenge.”

He also mentions lawnmowerclippin and pepsicola, two players who recently pushed him to the edge in battle. The man keeps score.

What’s your most controversial Pokémon opinion?

“Typhlosion should have been higher on the list, not untiered.”

A hot take delivered with confidence.

What message would you like to share with the community?

“I am always here for you people, both in the game and in personal life. My door is never truly shut.”

It’s a rare moment of vulnerability. Behind the jokes and the battles, he genuinely cares about the people in this community. His leadership isn’t performative, it’s personal.

What’s next for you and the team?

“Who knows, sky is the limit!”

He’s working on publishing music on Spotify, finalising GV Leagues (a massive 120‑day event), and a spicy secret:

“I said I was retired from Treasure Hunt… but I had a brilliant idea for part 2.”

Grandpa never truly retires. He just evolves.

Closing Thoughts

Lazy Grandpa isn’t just a team leader, he’s a storyteller, a survivor, a creator, and the emotional backbone of Good Vibes. His journey is messy, funny, heartfelt, chaotic, and deeply human… which is exactly why the community rallies around him.

Good Vibes wouldn’t be Good Vibes without him.
